Juniors will take the ACT Tuesday, March 10

Junior Parents: The following information was emailed out to students last week from Mr. Riggins:

The ACT test administration date is almost here....  It is your time to shine and show out!  Here are some important items I would like to share with you before  Tuesday.  Please read each of these instructions below to ensure Tuesday goes smoothly for all of us...

1.  Please be sure to be at school on time Tuesday.  All students will report to the cafeteria until dismissed to their testing location.  We will dismiss students to testing rooms between 7:45 and 8am.

2.  Please bring the following items with you to your testing room:  Photo ID (drivers license or student ID), #2 regular pencils (no mechanical pencils), your completed permission slip to leave after testing.

3.  You may bring a snack to consume during the break, but it must be left outside of the testing room along the hall walls.  Water and limited snacks will be provided by the school, and there will be classrooms designated as break rooms

4.  Do NOT bring any prohibited electronic devices (cell phones, fitbits, smart watches, etc), bags, backpacks, or purses to the testing room.  Mrs. McCugh's room will be available for you to store these items.

5. Students will NOT be allowed to go to their lockers at all on test day.  Be sure to have what you need out of your locker before Tuesday.

6.  Students who bring the attached (and completed) permission slip with them on Tuesday will be allowed to leave after the conclusion of the test.  Permission slips should be returned to testing room supervisors on test day.  Students who remain on campus will report to the cafeteria after testing until 3pm.  Buses will run their regular scheduled routes and school lunch will be served.

7.  Please be sure to eat breakfast and get a good night's rest the night before testing.

8.  Testing rosters will be sent out to all students on Friday afternoon (3/6).  Rosters will also be hung in the cafeteria and in the halls.

Incentives

We are excited to offer our students the incentives below (applies for the March 10 test only).

Mastery Prep (Ready Platform)

Ready Platform is accessible to all students.  Students will need to log into their Clever and look for the grad hat icon.  Students will be working on this platform in Soar, but they can also work on it outside of school. There are 3 platforms in Mastery Prep:  TruScore (practice tests), Study Hall (Skill Review) and Snapcourse (Online course).  See graphic below.

Practice Tests

We are fortunate that Shelby County has partnered with Cantrell Waller allowing our students to take practice tests throughout the year.  The first one was in August and the second one was last week.  We hope to have the results from the second one in February in preparation for March's test.  Below are strategies that our teachers have shared with our students centered around target scores for the ACT.

Let's Benchmark on the ACT!

Students who benchmark in just one area on the ACT will receive a CCRI (College and Career Ready Indicator) on their transcript. A CCRI is now a requirement to graduate.  As a incentive, students will also receive an all-season sports pass for their senior year if they benchmark in just 1 section on the March exam.
